Eskom says it does is not expecting to implement load shedding on Tuesday.
"Some generation units have returned to service, further increasing eneration capacity and helping us avoid load shedding. Emergency reserves are at adequate levels," the utility said in a statement on Monday afternoon.
However, it said, the generation plant remains "unreliable and unpredictable".
Unplanned outages or breakdowns increased to 11 371MW just after 16:00, while planned maintenance was at 4 737MW.
