Vadodara makes rapid advances on cardiology

Vadodara: Some heartening news for the heart patients in Banyan City. Vadodara is now equipped to conduct minimal invasive cardiac surgery (MICS), a special type of technique that reduces stay in hospital and post discharge recovery is faster as there is no cutting of chest bone.
This is what Dr Mahesh Basarge, leading cardiologist and managing director of Baroda Heart Institute informed to around 250 leading doctors from across Gujarat who converged in the city on Sunday to participate in a scientific session on ‘cardiology next’.
MICS is a special type of technique whereby rather than opening the complete chest (as in conventional bypass surgery and valve replacement), surgery can be done with only four small incisions, he said.
The speakers included Dr Ritesh Sukharamwala, who focused on paediatric heart ailments while Dr Anmol Sonawane focused on new technology - TAVR - which is useful for valve replacement without operation in elderly people.
Dr Krishnanand Pai and Dr Devender Singh focused on valve replacement surgery and bypass surgery through minimal invasive method.
Other eminent doctors included interventional cardiologist Dr Parvindar Singh, Dr Rajiv Daveshwar, Dr Sheela Aiyer, Dr Uday Tilawat, Dr Vasant Patel, Dr Mahesh Bhatt, Dr Kaku Shah, Dr Jayant Acharya, Dr Jayesh Tripathy, Dr V C Chauhan, Dr Ketan Kapashi, Dr B R Shah among others.
