PUNE: The city is expected to experience summer-like weather condition towards the end of February as the daytime temperature may hover between 36-37 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday.
There are three main reasons behind this weather phenomenon.
“First, the flow of Northerly wind would recede in the coming days. Secondly, Southerly and South Easterly will bring hot air from the Southern Peninsular region. And thirdly, the season is advancing towards the summer. Because of these factors, the daytime temperature will rise to 37 degrees Celsius on the last few days of this month,” a senior Met department official told TOI on Sunday.
On Sunday, the day temperature in
Shivajinagar and
Lohegaon touched 34.7 degrees Celsius and 35.3 degrees Celsius, respectively, maintaining the above normal trend by 2.4 degrees Celsius and 2.3 degrees Celsius, respectively.
“On February 25 and 26, the maximum and minimum temperatures may fall by 1-2 degrees. On February 27, 28 and 29, the city may experience partly cloudy condition in the early morning and evening,” another IMD official said.
“There is a chance of formation of trough over Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra region. Because of this, the moisture incursion is likely to occur in these regions, resulting in cloudy condition. This would have an impact on the day and night temperatures for a couple of days. But this condition will not remain for long period,” the official added.
For the last two weeks, the city’s temperature had hovered between 33 degrees Celsius to 34 degrees Celsius. The day and night temperatures are likely to maintain the above normal trend by 2-3 degrees in the coming days, a source from Met department said.
