A mum has shared a 'genius' way of fitting large water bottles into any cup holder.

The woman posted the trick to Bunnings Mums Australia Facebook page and said it was her husband who discovered the solution for 'bottles not fitting in the holders'.

He placed a pipe attachment - known as a taper level invert - in the compartment, creating a larger space to place a water bottle.

The attachments range in price from $5 - $13 at hardware stores across Australia.

'That is awesome I need this for my massive water bottle!', one said.

'I'm going to Bunnings. My litre drink bottle teeters on the edge of falling everyday every time I stop or turn a corner. Brilliant', another agreed.

A taper level invert is used to connect two adjoining drain or sanitary pipes, which are different diameters.

They vary in size and price, depending on the diameter of the pipes which are being connected.
