Fiat Restricts Access To Italian Facilities Following Coronavirus Spread In The Country

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is taking precautionary measures at its facilities Europe, following more than 220 cases of coronavirus in the country.

The car maker is restricting access to all of its facilities in Europe to everyone that has been in one of the 13 Italian municipalities affected by the virus outbreak, FCA said in a letter to suppliers and visitors according to AutoNews.

FCA is also banning visits from everyone who has been in China or another Asian country in the past 15 days, as well as people who have been in direct or indirect contact with potentially infected individuals.

Despite the precautionary measures, all facilities of the car maker in Italy are up and running as usual. FCA’s European HQ is in Turin, the center of the Piedmont region, where there have been three cases of the coronavirus so far.

Italy is the most affected country in Europe by the coronavirus so far, with six deaths from the outbreak, and the government having closed off the worst-hit areas in northern parts of the country. FCA has no sites in the areas affected by the lock down.

The famous Italdesign-Giugiaro design and engineering firm has also closed its two facilities in Turin, following an employee who tested positive for the virus. The VW-owned company said it’s currently working to identify people that came in contact with the said employee.
