
Delhi Maujpur-Babarpur Violence Live News Updates: The Delhi Police has detained a man for open firing in northeast Delhi’s Maujpur area as violent clashes broke out between pro and anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protesters for the second consecutive day on Monday. A Delhi Police Head Constable and three civilians were killed as violent mobs torched vehicles, homes, and shops in northeast Delhi, particularly in the areas of Maujpur, Kardampuri, Chand Bagh and Dayalpur. Section 144 of CrPC has been imposed in the affected areas.
Sources close to the Ministry of Home Affairs told The Indian Express that the violence “appears to be orchestrated” to coincide with the visit of US President Donald Trump.

In Mumbai, people have gathered at Marine Drive just opposite to inter-continental hotel to protest against the violence that took place in North East Delhi. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Monday said there will be no changes in the Class 12 board exams schedule for Tuesday due to the violence that broke out in Maujpur-Babarpur areas in the North East Delhi on Monday.

Deputy CM and Education Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia has urged the Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank to postpone the board exams in violence-affected areas of northeast Delhi. The exam is scheduled for tomorrow.
He also said all private and government schools in northeast Delhi will remain closed on Tuesday and all the exams will be postponed.

BJP MP and spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi Monday said the death of a Delhi Police head constable in violence over the amended citizenship law in northeast Delhi was a "ploy" to embarrass India during US President Donald Trump's visit. Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy Monday alleged that the violence in northeast Delhi was orchestrated with an eye on US President Donald Trump's visit to India, ANI reported.
"Violence in northeast Delhi was orchestrated with an eye on the US President's visit to India. I condemn it. The Government of India will never tolerate violence. We will take strict action against those responsible. MHA is monitoring the situation," ANI quoted him as saying.
Accusing the Congress of the situation in northeast Delhi, Reddy said, "Rahul Gandhi, the Congress party and those people who are supporting protests against CAA should tell who is responsible for damaging the image of India."

AAP MLA Gopal Rai Monday appealed the people in Babarpur to maintain calm as violent clashes broke out between pro and anti-CAA protesters in northeast Delhi.
Senior Congress leader Ajay Maken Monday urged Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to take swift action against the incidents of violence reported from some areas of northeast Delhi.

A day after he led a gathering of pro-CAA protesters at Maujpur, Delhi BJP leader Kapil Mishra Monday appealed the pro and anti-CAA groups clashing in northeast Delhi to exercise restraint, adding that violence is not the solution to anything.
On Sunday, Mishra had led a pro-CAA protest next to the Maujpur-Babarpur Metro Station, 2 km from the Jaffrabad anti-CAA protest site where at least 500 people are staging a sit-in from Saturday night. Shortly after this, violence broke between the pro and anti-CAA protesters in the area.
Delhi Police statement on incidents of violence in some areas of northeast Delhi: 'Some incidents of violence and arson have been reported in the areas of North East district, particularly in the areas of Maujpur, Kardampuri, Chand Bagh and Dayalpur...It is appealed to the people of Delhi and particularly to the North East District to maintain peace and harmony and not to believe in any false rumors. In an alleged jibe at BJP's Kapil Mishra, AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi Monday said the ex-MLA should be arrested for his inciting speech at northeast Delhi which led to clashes between two groups. His statement comes as fresh incidents of violence are being reported from Maujpur-Babarpur areas in northeast Delhi.

At least two vehicles and a fire tender were torched in Jaffrabad and Maujpur as police had to fire tear gas shells to disperse the protesters. The injured have been taken to GTB hospital.

On Sunday, clashes took place at Maujpur soon after Delhi BJP leader Kapil Mishra gathered along with pro-CAA supporters next to the Maujpur-Babarpur Metro Station, 2 km from the Jaffrabad anti-CAA protest site, in the afternoon. At least 500 people are staging a sit-in from Saturday night on the road outside Jaffrabad Metro Station in northeast Delhi. The road where the protest began on Saturday night connects Seelampur with Maujpur and Yamuna Vihar.
Taking to Twitter, Mishra said, “We have given a three-day ultimatum to the Delhi Police to get the road cleared. Get the Jafrabad and Chandbagh road cleared”.
According to locals, the former MLA left between 4-4.30 pm, an hour and a half after he had arrived. The violence began almost immediately after, with a group of people seen running from the Jaffrabad side towards Babarpur. As stone-pelting erupted from both sides, more locals gathered and violence spread towards the interiors of Babarpur. Teargas shells were used by police to disperse the crowd.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took notice of the violence and urged the Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal and Home Minister Amit Shah to restore law and order in the area. "Very distressing news regarding disturbance of peace and harmony in parts of Delhi coming in. I sincerely urge Hon’ble LG n Hon'ble Union Home Minister to restore law and order n ensure that peace and harmony is maintained. Nobody should be allowed to orchestrate flagrations," he tweeted.
