All-New Morgan Coming To Geneva With Four-Pot And Manual Gearbox

Morgan will unveil a brand new model at next month’s Geneva Motor Show, based on their CX-Generation aluminum platform. The car will come with a four cylinder engine, as well as the option of a manual transmission.

The unveiling is a little over a week away and will take place at the Morgan stand (6260) during the car show’s first press day on March 3rd, at 1.30 PM CET (7:30 AM EST).

While the British sports car manufacturer didn’t reveal any other details in their press release, we do know a couple of interesting tidbits about the CX-Generation platform.

First of all, the new platform already debuted in the all-new Plus Six last year, which is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter BMW-sourced straight six, good for 335 HP and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. If that sounds familiar, it’s because this very same engine powers the latest-generation BMW Z4 and Toyota Supra.

The CX-Generation platform is said to be twice as rigid as the previous aluminum chassis, tipping the scales at just 97 kg (214 lbs) and leading to the Plus Six’s impressively low dry weight of 1,075 kg (2,370 lbs).

We also knew that Morgan’s new range of cars would include not just a variant with a manual gearbox, but also a smaller engine than the previously-mentioned 3.0-liter straight six, which will clearly be the case with next month’s unveiling.

As for the carmaker’s traditional steel chassis models, there’s no official production end date as of right now – meaning they will continue to be built alongside the new CX-Generation cars before being discontinued sometime later this year.
