Varanasi: Students spread awareness on social issues with colours & creativity in Spandan 2020

Students taking part in different contests held on the first day of the annual fest Spandan at BHU on Sunday
VARANASI: The five-day Inter-Faculty youth festival of Banaras Hindu University- Spandan 2020- was formally inaugurated by chief guest of the fest Padam Shri Dr Soma Ghosh on Sunday.
The annual festival aims to provide a platform for the students to show their skills and talents in 31 categories. The fest commenced with the preliminary round of quiz competition conducted at department of Journalism and Mass Communication. Six students
from 20 faculties participated in the event held under the supervision of Prof JS Jha, Prof Neeraj Khare, Prof Anurag Dave, Dr Neha Pandey, Dr Sanjeev Yadav, Dr Omprakash, Dr Ashutosh Mohan. Six teams have been selected for the final round of the quiz.
Participants gave message on various social and human issues like eye donation through colours in the rangoli contest organised at faculty of visual arts. Around 17 participants from different faculties took part in the event. Prof Jasvindar Kaur of faculty of visual arts, Dr Kiran Singh and Dr Swati Mital of faculty of Science judged the event.
Classical instrument event at Pt Omkarnath Thakur Auditorium witnessed performances by Hemant Pandey, Uday Shankar Mishra and Gopal Krishna of IIT BHU. The second session of the event, dedicated to classical instrumental non-percussion Sitar, witnessed participation of seven teams which enthrelled the audience with their performances with flute, sitar and santoor.
In the elocution competition held at lecture theatre of Institute of Science, over 58 participants gave their views on the topic ‘We want to live the dream of Mahamana, to be a good citizen’. The event was held in Hindi, English and Sanskrit languages.
‘On spot painting’ conducted by the faculty of Visual Arts witnessed participants expressing their ideas and views on themes of Holi and ‘Ek Bharat, Shresth Bharat’ with colours on canvas. The jury members for the event were Prof Satyendra Singh Bavni, Prof Saroj Rani and Suresh Chandra Jangid.
Another attraction of the first day was ‘Mime’ organised at Swatantrata Bhavan. Around 17 teams performed on various social and environmental issues.
The cartooning event was conducted on the theme- unity in diversity at the faculty of Visual Arts in which participants beautifully expressed their given tasks through their creations.
