UDUPI: The Koosamma Shambhu Shetty Memorial Haji Abdullah Mother and Child Hospital,
Udupi, a first of its kind having PPP model with the state government, has handled 1,31,568 obstetrics, gynecology and pediatric OPD cases and witnessed 5588 deliveries in the last two years.

Dakshina Kannada, and provides services to the weakest sections of society.
The memorandum of understanding allows BRS Ventures to run the facilities for 30 years under a build-own-operate-transfer model. The hospital offers a wide variety of gynecological and pediatric services including 33 ICU beds (NICU, PICU, SICU, MICU), ER, Blood Storage, high-quality ventilators, digital X-Ray, Modular Operation Theatres, lab analyzers, USG with 4D Imaging, amongst others.
Ajoy Raj Malpe, Group Medical Director, BR Life said the hospital witnesses close to 180 patients on average daily only for OBG related health issues. A team of doctors are available round the clock to address patients’ problems. Complete Antenatal Care, Antenatal Education, Nutritional Counselling, etc. are provided to the patients, he said adding the hospital is fully-equipped to take charge of high-risk pregnancy cases including Eclampsia, GDM (Gestational diabetes), Antepartum Haemorrhage, preterm cases and with babies below 2.5 kg, abdominal and vaginal hysterectomies that are diagnosed immediately and timely decisions are taken to salvage fetuses.
The Hospital has a 11-bedded NICU with round the clock neonatal emergency services, well trained nurses, 24X7 duty doctors and consultant paediatricians. The hospital has witnessed over 695 neonatal cases with 31 ventilated cases.
Ajoy said the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit is six-bed state-of-the-art ICU with two mechanical ventilators. With over 168 admissions in the last six months, the hospital has treated few of high-risk cases including Infantile Tremor Syndrome in a nine-month-old female child, Acute Meningitis in an adolescent boy and Rickets in a two-year-old girl.
