Delhi Violence Today Live News Updates: The death toll in the northeast Delhi violence climbed to 11 on Tuesday and nearly 150 injured were admitted to the GTB hospital, said authorities. Four people were declared brought dead by doctors at the hospital. “Fifty per cent of those injured sustained bullet injuries,” a doctor at the hospital said. On Monday, the violence claimed lives of five people, including Delhi Police head constable Ratan Lal.
Violent mobs torched vehicles, homes, and shops in northeast Delhi, particularly in the areas of Maujpur, Kardampuri, Chand Bagh and Dayalpur Monday. Section 144 of CrPC has been imposed in the affected areas. The area had been on edge since Sunday when a rally by BJP’s Kapil Mishra to counter anti-CAA protests in the area had been followed by waves of stone-pelting.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Tuesday appealed everyone to maintain peace. Calling the situation “unfortunate,” Kejriwal said the district magistrate has been asked to take out peace march with the police. In wake of violence over CAA protest in the national capital, Delhi High Court on Tuesday asked CBSE to decide at the earliest on rescheduling Wednesday's board exam at one of the centres in the north-east Delhi. The court will hear the matter again on Wednesday morning. The court was hearing a plea by private school, Bhai Parmanand Vidya Mandir at Surya Niketan in East Delhi, and some of its class X and XII students saying the centre allotted to them by the CBSE was 16 km away their school and situated in Chandu Nagar-Karawal Nagar road, one of the violence-hit areas.

Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday expressed concern over the law and order situation in New Delhi and asked Union Home Minister Amit Shah to "act in the nation's interest and not in the interest of a few people." In a series of tweets, the Congress leader slammed the police for its "inaction" and appealed to the people to maintain calm. He reminded Shah of Mahatma Gandhi's famous saying that an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. Peace and harmony should be the motto, he added.
Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday wrote a letter to the wife of Delhi Police Head Constable Ratan Lal, who died during clashes over the Citizenship Amendment Act in Northeast Delhi, yesterday. He wrote, "I express grief and deep condolences on untimely death of your husband".
A total of 11 FIRs has been registered in connection with arson in Northeast Delhi. According to the police, the situation is under control as section 144 has been imposed in Delhi. " Sec 144 imposed in the affected areas. Appeal to the people to maintain peace and not to believe in rumors.I appeal to people especially in North East Delhi to not take law in their hands. We are taking the help of drones also. Situation under control," Delhi Police PRO MS Randhawa was quoted as saying by ANI.

Condemning the violence in Delhi, the Congress on Tuesday demanded that the Prime Minister, the Home Minister and the Chief Minister of Delhi come forward to ensure peace and maintain brotherhood while rising above partisan politics. "This is Gandhi, Nehru, Patel's India, can any Indian accept this mindless violence? Congress appeals to the people of Delhi to maintain communal harmony and thwart all attempts of the forces dividing the country on the basis of religion," said Congress' chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala.
Meanwhile, US President Donald, who is in India for his maiden trip said that India has really worked hard on religious freedom.
" We did talk about religious freedom. The PM said he wants people to have religious freedom. They have worked really hard on it. I heard about the individual attacks but I did not discuss it. It is up to India," Trump said while talking about violence over CAA.
As tension smoulders in the city over violence, section 144 has been imposed in parts of Northeast Delhi. So far, violence continues in Maujpur, Gokulpuri, Bhajanpura, Jaffrabad, Chandbagh and Khureji Khas areas. Earlier in the rioters damaged two fire tenders in Gokulpuri and crowds raising incendiary slogans set on fire a bike in the epicentre of the trouble Maujpur. The death toll rose to nine on Tuesday in the violence over the amended citizenship law that has rocked northeast Delhi , GTB Hospital authorities said.

After meeting with the MLAs and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia reached Raj Ghat to pray for peace. Stone pelting reported again at Khajoori Khas in North East Delhi, nearly two kilometers away from Bhajanpura chowk where violence is still on and a petrol pump in Bhajanpura was allegedly set ablaze on Monday night.
Urging everyone to maintain peace and order, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal said, "both chief minister and I want that peace and harmony should remain intact in Delhi. We should do everything possible to maintain peace and order. We should also help Police in this."
The Supreme Court Tuesday agreed to hear a petition filed by former Chief Information Commissioner Wajahat Habibullah and others seeking lodging of FIRs over the recent violence in Delhi over the amended citizenship law. The hearing will take place tomorrow. The plea was mentioned for urgent listing before a bench of Justices S K Kaul and K M Joseph. In the application, Wajahat Habibullah, Bhim Army chief Chandrasekhar Azad, and social activist Bahadur Abbas Naqvi have also sought a direction to authorities to ensure the safety of women sitting on protest against the CAA at Shaheen Bagh and other places in the national capital. On being asked if he will ask for the Army to be called, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal told ANI, "If it is needed then I hope...But right now the action is being taken by police...We've been assured (during meeting with the Home Minister) that adequate number of police personnel will be deployed as required."
The Delhi High Court agreed to hear an NGO's plea Wednesday, seeking registration of FIR against three BJP leaders Kapil Mishra, Anurag Thakur and Pravesh Verma in the violence that erupted in Northeast Delhi over CAA. The plea sought direction to preserve the CCTV footage of the area concerned. The petition for urgent hearing was mentioned before a bench headed by Justice G S Sistani.

An NGO on Tuesday approached the Delhi High Court seeking registration of an FIR and arrest of persons involved in the ongoing violence in northeast Delhi over the Citizenship Amendment Act, PTI reported. The petition, which is likely to be mentioned before the high court, also seeks setting up of an SIT to inquire into the incident and compensation for those killed and injured in the violence.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Tuesday said, 'MLAs of the affected areas informed me that there is a severe shortage of police force and police can't take action till they receive orders from the top. I have also asked District Magistrates to take out peace march with police in these areas.' He further told ANI that the hospital authorities have been asked to be prepared and provide quality medical aid to the injured coming there. 'Fire department has been asked to coordinate with Police and reach the affected areas on time.', he said. Kejriwal also added that the MLAs of the border areas have said that people are coming from outside. 'There is a need to seal the borders and do preventive arrests.'

Shahdara DCP Amit Sharma, who suffered serious head injuries Monday during clashes in Northeast Delhi over the new citizenship law, underwent surgery last night and is now out of danger, reported news agency ANI. In the darkness of Monday night, Maujpur resident Kapil’s bright red ‘Make India Great Again’ cap stands out. He, along with several other locals, have taken it on themselves to man a stretch of road separating protesters from two communities. “Our shops have been burnt. Public property was damaged and our locality has got a bad name. Is this the message we want to send out to the American President?” Kapil asked. In a tweet, the chief minister also urged everyone to shun violence. "Am v worried abt prevailing situation in certain parts of Del. All of us together shud make all efforts to restore peace in our city. I again urge everyone to shun violence (sic)," he tweeted. An incident of fire at Karawal Nagar tyre market has been confirmed by a Delhi Fire Service official. DFS was unable to reach the spot. One fire tender has been sent but it's standing at Jafrabad police station as they are waiting to get police protection.
