Donald Trump arrives at Taj Mahal — here are the highlights from day one of his visit

  • US President Donald Trump and family reached Motera stadium for the event 'Namastey Trump' after the 22 km roadshow.
  • Addressing the event, US President Donald Trump said that America loves and respects India.
  • The two-day visit will include a visit to Sabarmati, ‘namaste trump’ event at Motera stadium, meeting the CEOs of Indian companies and much more.
  • As many as 12,000 policemen have been deployed in Gujarat to keep the security in check.
US President Donald Trump along with Melania Trump, the First Lady of the US, daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner arrived in India, amid high security. They have now arrived at the iconic Taj Mahal in Agra.

Meanwhile, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Governor Anandiben Patel have arrived at the Agra airport as the Trumps prepare to leave for Delhi where he will be staying in the ultra-luxurious Chanakya - Grand Presidential Suite of ITC Maurya.

The Indian government has imposed Section 144 in some areas of North East Delhi.

Trump lauded Modi as he began his speech at the Motera stadium. Addressing the event, US President Donald Trump said that America loves and respects India. "5 months ago the United States welcomed your great Prime Minister at a giant football stadium in Texas and today India welcomes us at the world's largest cricket stadium right here in Ahmedabad," Trump said.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump as they landed at the airport. They were welcomed with folk dances and music.


Making Hindi as the medium of interaction, Prime Minister Narendra Modi replied to Donald Trump's tweet saying 'Athithi Devo Bhava' (Guest is god). An hour ahead of his two-day visit to India, Donald Trump had tweeted in Hindi saying that he is looking forward to meeting everyone in India.


The two-day visit will include a visit to Sabarmati, ‘Namaste trump’ event at Motera stadium, meeting the CEOs of Indian companies and much more. “It is an honour that he will be with us tomorrow, starting with the historic programme in Ahmedabad,” Modi said on Twitter ahead of Trump's visit.


Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a roadshow, along with President Trump and Melania Trump at Motera stadium.


As many as 12,000 policemen have been deployed in Gujarat to keep the security in check, ahead of Trump’s visit. This includes personnels from Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), who will check for drones or any such objects near the route and fighter planes from the IAF, in case of any emergency. In addition to this, over 600 walkie-talkies have also been set up.

Various cultural programmes have also been organised for Trump and family. He will also visit Taj Mahal in Agra before landing in Delhi for business meetings.

On day-two of the visit, Trump is also planning to meet the CEOs of the Indian companies that are creating manufacturing jobs in the US. Among the 12 CEOs invited for the meeting are Anand Mahindra, chairman of Mahindra Group, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran and chairman and MD of Reliance Industries, Mukesh Ambani.
