LUCKNOW: As many as 47 new parking spots have been identified in different parts of the city to check irregular parking on streets leading to traffic congestion. Also, speed-breakers of different sizes posing a threat to commuters and damaging the suspension of vehicles will be reconstructed.
Addressing the National Liveability Summit on Saturday, municipal commissioner Indramani Tripathi said, “Parking is a big issue in the city. Besides, many roads have speed-breakers of different sizes. This results in damaging of vehicles.”
Lucknow Municipal Corporation officials said selection of parking spots is done on the basis of vehicular movement in these areas. Some prominent areas selected by the municipal body are Gomtinagar, Hazratganj, Lalbagh, Kaiserbagh, Alambagh, Mahanagar and Indiranagar among others. The civic body is now surveying these spots to find out availability of parking space for both two and four-wheelers. In its survey, LMC found that the location of speed-breakers is not an issue, but their shape and size varies in different locations. The municipal body will now reconstruct about 235 speed breakers as per the Indian Road Congress (IRC) code 99-1998.
