Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray discussed the law and order situation in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh and attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over it. Uddhav Thackeray was responding to questions raised by media persons regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Population Register (NPR).
Uddhav Thackeray said, "There have been several protests in our state but all have been peaceful. There have been law and order problems in Delhi and rioting in Uttar Pradesh. In Delhi, the home department is with the BJP and Uttar Pradesh is run by the BJP."
He added: "The terrorists who entered the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus, yes, I will call them terrorists. No action has been taken against them."
Uddhav Thackeray went on to attack the opposition-led by the BJP, saying that the opposition should work "responsibly" and not just oppose everything when the government is trying to do something good for the people.
The Maharashtra chief minister announced that the first list of farmers benefiting from the loan waiver for farmers up to Rs 2 lakh will be released on Monday.
Mentioning the Shivbhojan scheme, Uddhav Thackeray said people are happy with the scheme and slowly and gradually, the number of centres would be increased.
Uddhav Thackeray discussed that on the lines of Disha Act in Andhra Pradesh, to deal with crimes against women, he said Home Minister Anil Deshmukh had gone to the state and met the chief minister and other officials there.
"They gave a detailed presentation on the issue and we are seriously considering a law on the same lines in Maharashtra," Uddhav Thackeray said.
Anil Deshmukh said a five-member committee has been formed and they will submit a detailed report on it by March 30. "This will consist of fast track courts to deal with crimes against women and other such measures to deal with crimes against women," Uddhav Thackeray said.
When asked about Elgaar Parishad case handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Uddhav Thackeray said, "We did not transfer the case but the Central government transferred it and we are not happy with it."
Regarding the CAA and the NPR, Uddhav Thackeray said he had mentioned his views on it in an interview given to the Shiv Sena mouthpiece, Samna. "I have had a discussion with Congress leaders on the issue and whatever issues are there will be discussed amongst leaders of all the three alliance parties," Uddhav Thackeray said.
