Knife-wielding man shot dead by police near Brisbane CBD unit complex

Police have shot a knife-wielding man dead in the Brisbane CBD after officers responded to a disturbance earlier on Sunday.

Emergency services were called to a unit complex on Mary Street about 10am and a police spokeswoman at the scene said the man ran at police with the knife.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said paramedics took another injured patient to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.

Mary Street is closed between Edward and Albert streets and will remain closed for some time, with significant delays expected.

Detectives were speaking to staff from the adjacent Quest River Park Central apartments and the Westin Hotel, with both blocks of apartments cordoned off.

It is the second time in as many months the Westin has been in the headlines after the Chinese national women's soccer team was quarantined in the hotel for two weeks due to coronavirus fears.

Investigations are continuing.

More to come.
