The VCK organised a state-level rally here on Saturday against the CAA and NRC, condemning that the people should not be split on religious faith.

Thiruchirapalli:
He appealed to the state government not to support the BJP in any way, otherwise the AIADMK would suffer for what the BJP had ‘sinned’.
Thirumavalavan urged the state government to pass a resolution against the CAA on par with the neighbouring state of Kerala.
He claimed that the party had earlier supported the CAA in Parliament, but started opposing it after sensing its impact on the people and so the state government should stand firm and strongly oppose it, he said.
Earlier, he told mediapersons that after imposing the regulation, around 6 per cent of the people in Assam are now declared non-citizens and they have been facing severe problems. Thus, the same situation would result in at least 10 crore people becoming nationless, he cautioned. He urged the Centre to concentrate on the development of the nation rather than working on NPR.
Meanwhile, the Vaniyambadi town police in Tirupattur on Saturday registered a case against 50 persons of the Muslim community for holding protest without getting official permission.
Members of the Muslim community have been agitating since the last four days against the CAA, NRC and NPR in the river bed area of the town. The protests continued on Saturday also with the agitators’ mouths gagged.
The protesters included men, women and children. They cook their meals on the spot and also conduct their prayers there.
On seeing children there, the police tried to force the protesters make the children leave and hence when they tried to do so, it resulted in heated arguments between the police and the agitators who said they were protesting along with their children. The police then beat a hasty retreat.
The VCK cadre marched from Panchapur main road and reached the E-Pudhur ground where party chief Thol Thirumavalavan addressed the
party members.
