PATIALA: Continuing with its attack on Punjab DGP
Dinkar Gupta, the Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) on Sunday demanded that he should be immediately dismissed from the service for his statement with regards to the
Kartarpur Sahib.
Member of the core committee of SAD and former MP,
Prem Singh Chandumajra in a statement said the DGP's statement reflected his mindset with regards to the
Sikh community, especially Sikh youths. "A person with such a mindset should be immediately shown the door,” he said.
The Senior Akali leader said that the objective behind Gupta's statement was to get the visit to Kartarpur Sahib terminated by raising a bogey of terrorism. He said that such mindset of officialdom and their political masters earlier kept the Punjab pot boiling in 1980s and 1990s and destroyed the state immensely. Because of such officers, Punjab was facing tough times and no youth was prepared to live in the state. The reason behind thousands of Punjabi youths going to Canada, Australia and other countries was that such officers have a very skewed approach towards them and always look towards them with suspicion. The statement of the DGP Gupta with regard to the Kartarpur sahib was born out of that suspicion and it should be not treated as off the cuff remark. Profiling of the Sikh community in such a mischievous manner by the state police chief could not be tolerated and the Chief Minister should immediately sack him to soothe the hurt feelings of the Sikh community.
When the UN Chief, during his recent visit to Kartarpur Sahib, appreciated the opening of the corridor for the pilgrimage to the holy Sikh place at Kartarpur Sahib, Punjab DGP, with his mischievous intent, was seeing the potential of terrorism in this pilgrimage, said Chandumajra. Whereas the statement made by the DGP was a well thought out design to damage the reputation of the Sikh community worldwide, its other objective was to harm the state financially and socially, he said.
