CHIKKAMAGALURU/MYSURU: Tensions eased in
Amulya Leona Noronha's hometown, Shivapura village in
Chikkamagaluru district, on Saturday, a day after a group hurled stones at her parents' residence.
No fresh protests were reported as police personnel kept a watch. Amulya's parents were moved to a safe location on Friday. "They are under police protection," an officer with Koppa police said, adding the stone-pelting episode was being investigated.
Amulya faces the sedition charge for allegedly raising a pro-Pakistan slogan at an anti-CAA demonstration in Bengaluru on Thursday. Before she could complete her remarks, the mic was taken away by those present on the stage. She was later detained and is currently in judicial custody.
Chief minister BS Yediyurappa linked her to Naxals on Friday, but police refused to share details about any inquiries in this direction.
Police sources said Amulya's contacts were being scrutinised after her parents said in a statement that she was misled by some organisations and individuals.
Meanwhile, members of the
Karnataka Sene Pade held a protest near Gun House circle in Mysuru on Saturday, urging the government to take strict action against Amulya and anyone who indulged in what they described as anti-national activities.
