Armed robbers flee with Rs 89 lakh cash from Bandhan Bank in Gujarat's Anand

Bank where robbery happened
VADODARA/ANAND: Three armed robbers looted Rs 88.97 lakh from Bandhan Bank’s Anand branch on Sunday morning.
The robbers entered the branch located on 100 feet road of Anand town when two customer relations officers and two cashiers were present inside the branch. Police said that two robbers, who had covered their faces with handkerchiefs, entered and brought down the shutter of the branch. They asked the four employees in Hindi to not shout and demanded the vault’s keys. When the bank staffers did not respond, one of them took out a knife and another pulled out an object which looked like a country-made gun. One of the cashiers handed over one bunch of keys to them and then the third robber also entered.
The four staffers were asked to sit together on a sofa and threatened to not move. When the vault did not open, one of them came again asking for the second bunch of keys. A cashier who had hid the keys in the dustbin had to bring them out as the robbers threatened to kill them. As the vault opened, two staffers were tied with a cloth in the storage room and two others were tied in pantry.
The robbers then entered the vault and came out after a while with the cash. The four staffers were released but were asked to enter the vault. As they went into the vault, the robbers locked them inside and switched off the lights. The robbery came to light only when one of the staffers’ husband reached the bank and informed another branch’s manager.
Cops said that the vault had Rs 1.1 crore cash, but the robbers did not touch Rs 21.16 lakh. They also fled with digital video recorder of CCTV cameras which was installed in the branch manager’s cabin.
