Tamil Nadu: 40 persons booked for trespassing into reserve forest for hunting

TRICHY: A total 40 people were booked under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972 for trespassing into a reserve forest in Trichy district for hunting animals on Sunday.
The incident happened in the late hours on Saturday when a total 48 people including minors along with dogs and traps entered Thatchankurichi reserve forest.
They came from Somarasampettai in four vehicles to hunt animals to observe Parivettai – a traditional practice of hunting animals in the wild as part of Mahasivarathri festival.
A 15-member forest department team secured all the trespassers based on a tip off and brought them to Trichy in the early hours on Sunday.
“They were produced in Trichy district court where they were let off on bail after imposing fine,” said Trichy district forest officer D Sujatha.
