ALLAHABAD: A day after a couple was found dead inside a locked room at Saiyed Sarawan village in Kaushambi, a young couple was found critically injured near Bharwari railway station under Kokhraj police limits in Kaushambi on Sunday.
Satish (20) and Puja (18) — residents of Jalalpur Gorian village — were rushed to Manjhanpur district hospital from where they were referred to SRN hospital in Allahabad. Additional SP ( Kaushambi) Ashok Kumar said Satish works as a labourer in Allahabad and returned to his native village two days back.
He said: “According to an initial investigation, the couple made an abortive bid to end their life by jumping before a moving train.”
On Sunday morning, locals alerted the police when they spotted them in a critical condition.
Police said the couple was in a relationship for the last three years and they used to meet secretly. A month back, when the girl’s family members came to know about her affair, they stopped her from moving out of the house. On Saturday, the girl managed to give a slip to the family members and reached Manoharganj railway station. She then called up her lover, who too reached Manoharganj. After spending night together, they reportedly jumped before a moving train near Bharwari railway station early on Sunday.
Police, however, said that they are still ascertaining whether the couple jumped before a running train or from a moving train. Once the couple are out of danger, they would be grilled to know the exact sequence of events, police said.
