Tamil Nadu: Customs seize gold worth Rs 44 lakh

CHENNAI: Customs officials seized 1.025kg of gold valued at 44.1 lakh on Saturday in two separate incidents.
Kalander Abbas, 36, and Asikdeen, 24, both from Chennai had arrived from Colombo and Dubai. They were intercepted at the exit and on personal search officials found five bundles of gold paste concealed in their rectum. On extraction, 681g of gold valued at 29.3 was recovered and seized.
In another case, Mohamed Sadusha, 22, of Trichy, who arrived from Singapore, was intercepted. Officers found two pouches of gold paste weighing 407g concealed inside specially stitched pockets at the bottom of his jeans. On extraction 344g valued at 14.8 lakh were recovered.
Further investigation is in progress.
