Lucknow: Jilted youth stabs woman to death, injures self

LUCKNOW: A man stabbed a woman to death and then injured himself with the same knife on Saturday, after he found out about the woman's engagement with another man. The 20-year-old woman's body was found in a jungle outside her village under Nagram police station. The accused was also found lying close to the body.
In the FIR, the woman's father said that the accused Vimal Gupta picked up his daughter from a market, where she had gone for some work. Around 3.30pm, he got the news about the murder. "On reaching the spot, I realised that he had killed my daughter and then attacked himself too," he added.
ACP of Mohanlalganj police station RK Shukla said, "Gupta has been booked for murder and under sections of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Initial investigations show that he often used to visit the woman's house and wanted to marry her." "The woman was stabbed thrice. Gupta is in hospital and will be arrested when discharged," he added.
