TIRUPATI: Police department's 'Dial 100' facility proved to be the last resort for a family stranded in the forest area near Veerannakonda in Vayalpadu mandal of Chittoor district on Saturday. The swift response by the Vayalpadu police who responded to the ''SOS'' calls of the family in time rescued them back from the woods to safety on Saturday evening.
According to Vayalpadu SI Venkateswarulu, the police command and control room received a call on Dial 100 at 4.04pm on Saturday evening and the caller who identified herself as Haritha told the police that she along with her four other family members went to visit the ancient Veerabhadra swamy temple atop the Veerannakonda hills and that they were stranded and unable to find their way out of the forest area near the temple. She requested the police to come to their rescue.
After the personnel at the police command and control alerted the Vayalpadu police station, three police constables and a home guard were sent to rescue the family which was lost inside the forest area near Veerannakonda.
The police personnel who went in search of the missing family spotted them deep inside the forest area and rescued them back to safety within an hour after a distress call was reported on Dial 100.
