Nashik: Woman, set on fire accidentally, dies

NASHIK: The 40-year-old woman, who was accidentally set ablaze in a scuffle with a 22-year-old youth in Lasalgaon on February 15, succumbed to her burn injuries while undergoing treatment in Mumbai.
The police said the woman had sustained 67% burns. She was immediately shifted to the Nashik civil hospital and a day later, taken to a private hospital in Byculla for treatment. However, the woman died on Friday, said Lasalgaon police.
The woman, who was a widow, is survived by two sons and a daughter. One son studies in Class VII and the other in Class IV. Her daughter is a Class II student.
According to the police, the woman was in a relationship with a 22-year-old youth. On February 15, the two argued the Lasalgaon bus stand. In the heat of the moment, the woman took out a petrol bottle. When the youth saw the bottle in her hand, he tried snatching it and threatened to set himself on fire. During the scuffle, some petrol fell on the woman. The youth had ignited a matchstick, and accidentally the woman caught fire.
In a statement to the police, the woman admitted that the youth did not deliberately set her on fire.
