VADODARA: In a first of its kind incident of road rage in the city, a 32-year-old biker living on New VIP Road was beaten to death following heated arguments with four to five car passengers over overtaking the car on Waghodiya Road on Sunday evening.
Keval Jadav, a resident of Gayatri Krupa Society on New VIP Road, had left from his home around 5.15pm on his bike to meet his friends. While passing through Waghodiya Road near busy Kaladarshan crossroads, Jadav overtook a car. Police sources said the car’s passengers were miffed as Jadav had suddenly overtaken their vehicle, so he was stopped at a distance.
A heated argument took place between Jadav and the car’s passengers. The verbal altercation escalated to brawl and Jadav was badly beaten up. According to police, during the melee, Jadav managed to call the police control room to come to his rescue. Some minutes later, the PCR van reached the spot but by then the group had fled from there. A female friend Jadav’s also reached there as Jadav had called her too.
“He was brought to the police station to lodge his complaint. While taking his statement, he suddenly complained of severe chest pain so we took him to Jamnabai Hospital in our car,” said inspector B M Rana of Panigate police station. On reaching the hospital, doctors asked the cops to take him to SSG Hospital as his condition had become critical by then. When they reached SSG Hospital, the doctors declared him dead before admission.
Police officials said that Jadav did not have any external injuries, but as four to five people had beaten him up, he must have received internal injuries. A murder case was registered at Panigate police station by late night. “We will be waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact reason for his death. In the meantime, we have formed teams to track down the passengers of the car,” said another police official.
Jadav was working as a human resources executive at a company in Halol.
