Davangere/Haveri: The state government will direct educational institutions and hostels to act against students who indulge in "
anti-national activities", home minister
Basavaraj Bommai said on Saturday, warning that
colleges could face consequences for not doing enough. The comment follows a series of controversies involving students protesting against the Citizenship (
Amendment) Act, 2019, and the proposed National Register of Citizens.
Will instruct college heads to initiate action: BommaiAmulya Leona Noronha faces the sedition charge for allegedly raising a pro-Pakistan slogan. “The government will discuss how to prevent such incidents at colleges and hostels. We will instruct heads of educational institutions and hostel wardens to initiate action against students and prevent anti-national activities. If they fail, the government will take action against them,” Bommai said.
He plans to meet police officers in Bengaluru on Sunday to discuss incidents where controversial slogans/statements were made. On theAmulya case, Bommai said some organisations and individuals were behind her. He shared no material to back the claim. He claimed some organisations involved in anti-CAA protests had got foreign funding.
