With 1 week left, Ludhiana achieves ease of living target

Ludhiana: In a gap of almost a week the performance of city residents in the ease of living index assessment has suddenly improved as the city has achieved the given target for citizen participation with one week still left for its completion. Sources revealed when citizen participation was low certain senior officials gave targets to employees in various departments for making residents participate in this survey apart from their advertisement boards and requests through various social media platforms.
On Friday, against a target of 17,316 public feed back, already 18,270 people have participated in this survey and with this, Ludhiana has come on top in Punjab, whereas Amritsar and Jalandhar are at second and third place. The survey is being conducted in smart cities across the country for ranking those on different parameters. The objective of the survey is to help cities assess their liveability vis-a-vis global and national benchmarks.
One week back against a target of getting at least 17, 316 perceptions online only 5,585 residents had come forward for the same. After this, the civic employees in all branches were asked to encourage the residents to be part of this drive. The officials then asked their near and dear ones to be part of this as well.
Requesting anonymity, one of the officials claimed that if they had waited for public to participate, then they would not have succeeded, so they started connecting with as many as people and asked them to take part in this survey. He said it does not take long to answer a series of questions related to the city’s infrastructure, law and order, pollution level and transport facilities. The residents’ response would help the city’s ranking in the index and also achieve higher ranking, he added.
MC commissioner K P Brar said this was a very important feedback survey and it was essential for residents to answer queries in the survey so that the Union government could get an idea about requirements of any city or state. She said they put staff on duty for completing the targets and they had achieved it in the given time.
