Hit-&-run: Man killed as truck rams bike

Ludhiana: In a hit-&-run case, a 30-year-old motorcyclist was crushed to death by an overspeeding truck near Dholewal Chowk on Saturday morning.
The victim, identified as Arvinder Singh of Dashmesh Nagar, worked at a Kohara-based factory.
Passersby called the family of the victim using his mobile phone. The kin took the injured to a nearby hospital from where he was referred to SPS Hospital, Sherpur Chowk, where he succumbed to his injuries.
ASI Kapil Kumar, in-charge, Miller Gunj police post, said Arvinder had left for his factory on his bike. At around 8.30 am, a speeding canter rammed his bike from the rear. Arvinder fell down and sustained a head injury. He was not wearing a helmet.
Meanwhile some commuter picked his mobile phone and called his father Teja Singh. On getting information about the accident, the victim’s father rushed to the spot.
The ASI said Teja took his son to a nearby hospital from where he was referred to SPS Hospital. However, he couldn’t be saved.
The police have registered a case under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 304-A (causing death by negligence) of IPC against unidentified driver. The police are scanning the CCTV cameras installed near the accident spot to trace the driver.
