Lamborghini Aventador SV Launches Like It’s Nobody’s Business

The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ may be the most insane road-legal variant of the brand’s V12-powered supercar ever (excluding the Veneno and Centenario) but before it came around, the ‘regular’ Aventador SV was the real king of Lamborghini’s.

Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show back in 2015, the Lamborghini Aventador SV boasted improved performance over the typical Aventador LP700-4. Most notably, grunt from the naturally-aspirated 6.5-liter V12 engine was lifted from 690 hp up to 740 hp while the car also benefited from a weight reduction of 50 kg (110 lbs) thanks to the presence of additional carbon fiber parts.

Visually, the SV is easy to spot from other Aventador models thanks to its fixed rear wing, bespoke front bumper and splitter, and sharp new diffuser.

In order to see what the supercar is capable of, the owner of an SV Roadster finished in Verde Ithaca took to the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds for a blast down the half-mile. The results? A top speed of 159.2 mph (256.3 km/h), very impressive considering the length of the runway.

While the Lamborghini Aventador SV and SV Roadster have since been replaced by the SVJ and SVJ Roadster respectively, it is actually the SV and SV Roadster that are harder to come by. Production of the original Aventador SV Coupe was capped at 600 units while 500 examples of the Roadster were built. By comparison, Lamborghini is building 963 units of the SVJ Coupe and 800 of the SVJ Roadster.
