Greater Noida: The area identified to resettle and rehabilitate families displaced due to the
Jewar airport project will be developed with an amount of Rs 238 crore, officials said.
The money will be utilised to develop infrastructure in Jewar Bangar village that will house 3,627 families.
In May last year, the state government had set aside Rs 895 crore for rehabilitation of the affected families. While most of the amount will be used to acquire 48 hectares from local farmers, Rs 238 crore will be spent to develop roads, drainage system, streetlights, water connection, health centres, schools and post office, among other things, in the area.
On Thursday, the deputy collector of Gautam Budh Nagar, who is also the in-charge of Jewar
airport project, Abhay Singh, met a group of villagers at Ranhera village and told them that work to set up a township on 48 hectares at Jewar Bangar will start in a few weeks.
Ranhera is one of the six villages where farmers have parted with their land for the airport project.
Local sources said that some of the farmers who have given up land are becoming anxious, as they will become landless soon.
“Settlements would not be uprooted till the time the villagers are accommodated,” Singh said.
Each family will now get a plot measuring a minimum of 50 sqm at Jewar Bangar village — 450 m away from Yamuna Expressway. The developed plots would be allotted to the farmers through a draw of lots.
Bhagwan Singh from Rohi village, where land has been acquired for the airport, said: “We have asked for half a dozen slip roads and underpasses so that people have no problem while commuting from Jewar Bangar village to the nearby places.”
Another Rohi resident, Sahzur, from whom 105 bigha was acquired, said: “We do not have an intermediate school or college in the vicinity. A private school is there near Jewar tehsil where most of the local children study. Good schools and colleges are needed here and even private players have to be convinced to open institutions in the area since there are a lot of people who can afford higher fee for better education.”
In a related development, on Thursday, more than 125 people submitted rehabilitation and resettlement (RnR) applications to Jewar tehsildar. They are entitled to get Rs 5.5 lakh each.
Tehsildar Durgesh Singh said: “The process will go on for several weeks. We have deputed additional staff members to help the affected people.”
