A separate fund of Rs100 crore has been proposed for rehabilitation of children who are rescued from child labour and those who need support and care of the state government.
It is for the first time that any state has proposed a separate Budget for children, said officials of Rajasthan State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (RSCPCR).
Chief minister Ashok Gehlot in his Budget speech said that Rs100 crore is proposed for Nehru Bal Sanrakshan Fund.
RSCPCR member Vijendra Singh said that nowhere in the country is there a separate fund for rehabilitation of children.
“Usually, the fund is proposed for women and children collectively but not solely for children. Such a separate Budget will be helpful for children who are rescued from child labour, or those who need support and care after being sodomised or raped or those abandoned by their parents on streets and hospitals,” he said.
While announcing the Budget for children, the chief minister further said that the funds will also be utilised for preventing child labour, child trafficking and other such activities.
