COIMBATORE: Soon after the news about the accident at Avinashi broke, Kerala minister for transport AK Saseendran and minister for agriculture VS Sunil Kumar, Palakkad district collector D Balamurali and Palakkad MP VK Sreekandan along with several officials visited the accident spot.
More than 10 ambulances from Palakkad reached Tirupur to transport the victims. Sunilkumar said he hoped that the Tamil Nadu government would take stringent action against the truck driver.
Saseendran visited Tirupur government hospital and consoled the family members of the victims. Addressing to reporters, he said that the Kerala government would give Rs 10 lakh each to the family members of the deceased through KSRTC insurance and Rs 2 lakh as initial amount from the government.
Families of the two staff of the KSRTC, who lost their lives in the accident, will get Rs 30 lakh each. He also appreciated the Tirupur and Palakkad district collectors for their immediate rescue work.
Sunil Kumar said 50 people, including two drivers, were travelling in the KSRTC omni bus. The driver of the truck had dozed off for few seconds and lost control of the vehicle leading to the accident, he added.
“We hope that the Tamil Nadu state government would take stringent action against the truck driver,” he added.
