Illegal healthcare centre raided, several medicines seized

Ludhiana: A health department team, along with Sarabha Nagar police, conducted a raid at a local healthcare centre in Barewal Awana on Thursday afternoon, and arrested a woman for allegedly providing medical treatment to local patients in an unauthorised centre. The police also recovered several medicines, including medical equipment used for conducting deliveries of pregnant women. Health department officials revealed that a case had been registered against the woman, identified as Jaswinder Kaur, under sections 240 and 420 of the IPC for fraud and cheating, along with Section 15(3) of the Medical Council Act.
Sarabha Nagar SHO Madhu Bala said, “Following information from the health department, a police party conducted the raid, and recovered several medical equipment and medicines used for conducting deliveries of pregnant women. Police also found two patients sitting at the centre who were getting medical treatment there. The accused failed to produce any medical degree or documents for running the centre.
Meanwhile, civil surgeon Rajesh Kumar Bagga said the health department had constituted a team of medical experts for keeping a tab on unauthorised practitioners in the city, and conducting a regular awareness campaign against such illegal activities. “We have been circulating a helpline number 0161-2444193 for complaints against unauthorised medical practices in any healthcare centre,” said Bagga, adding that this information could also be provided in his office.
