PUNE: On the occasion of 105th death anniversary of Namdar Gopal Krishna Gokhale, an oil painting was unveiled by the former president of Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan Sadanand More.

More, in his speech said, “We need societies like Servants of India which was founded by Gokhale. This society was created to train a band of people working selflessly for the country. Today, we are in dire need of having such a society and I believe organisations like Sarhad should come forward to
create it.”

Veteran journalist Arvind Gokhale who presided over the function said, “Although, there were difference of opinions between Gokhale and Tilak, when it came to working for the society, they both worked together.”

Citing an example, Gokhale said, “Gokhale believed that  education was the only way to reduce the rift between Hindus and Muslims. He understood the importance of education around 115 years ago.”
Sarhad Head Sanjay Nahar said that the organisation was contemplating starting a political and social skills training institute to train youngsters.

Also present were novelist Sanjay Sonawane, social activist Yuvraj Shah and trustee Shailesh Wadekar among others.

Advocate Chandrakant Ghanekar hosted the programme and Wadekar proposed the vote of thanks.
