Food outlets fined Rs 80k for selling misbranded products

Rajkot: The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) on Thursday imposed fine of Rs 80,000 on various food outlets for selling misbranded items.
During RMC’s inspection it was found that that non-alcoholic beer being sold at Shiv Shakti traders of Vaniya Vadi road, had no FSSAI license number mentioned on the bottles. It was also not clear from where the beer was imported. The civic body imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the owners of the trading firm.
The civic body officials also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on Jokar Gathiya on Jawahar road. The unit was found using synthetic colour in the papaya sauce serve with gathiya.
RMC health officials found that Shree Gurukrupa Bhel house on Kalavad Road too was using synthetic colours in sweet chatni. Owner of the unit was fined Rs 15,000. Maruti Shopping store on University Road was found selling rotten peanuts and was fined Rs 15,000.
According to a statement issued by the RMC, a sample of chikki taken from Santosh Season Store taken a few days back had failed quality test because the packet did not mention FSSAI license number, nutritional value and date of packaging and expiry, which is mandatory under the Food Safety and Standard Act-2006.
