Man uses else’s credit card to do shopping worth Rs 1L

Ludhiana: A Lohara-based man did shopping worth Rs 1.15 lakh using a credit card of another person and reactivating the latter’s mobile number to obtain one-time password (OTP).
After carrying out a detailed investigation, Shimlapuri police booked Kabir Rai of Ambedkar Nagar, Lohara, for the fraud.
In his police complaint, Ravinder Kumar of Gobind Nagar said he had been using the credit card of a private company which was linked with his mobile number. But as he did use mobile number for long, it got deactivated. He didn’t even use his card between February 2018 and May 2019.
Ravinder got to know about the fraud in May 2019, when a man came to him, asking whether he had made a transaction worth Rs 1.15 lakh at a store in Hoshiarpur. On calling up the customer care, Ravinder was told by the company to pay the money as transaction has been made from his ID.
The complainant said at Sarabha Nagar office, he asked company officials why they cleared the amount without verifying his credentials. He said later, a company official helped him lodge a complaint with Sarabha Nagar police station. Cops asked him to get the matter marked from the police commissioner. A case was registered into the matter after a thorough probe by the cyber cell.
Police has booked Kabir under relevant sections of the IPC and IT Act. He hasn’t been arrested yet.
