No nod yet for Margao tableau route says Government to High court

High court of Bombay at Goa
PANAJI: The government has not granted any permissions for the Carnival parade to be held on the old route in Margao on February 23.
The high court of Bombay at Goa is hearing a petition filed by Custodio Dias challenging the holding of the parade through the town.
Additional government advocate Pravin Faldessai told the court on Thursday that no permissions have been issued yet to hold the parade on the old route—the national highway which runs from Holy Spirit Church via Hospicio Hospital to the Margao municipal building.
He stated that no permissions have been issued yet, although the government has received a proposal from the carnival organisation committee to hold the parade on this route.
Faldessai said he will place the material on the basis of which the proposal will be considered, before the court on Friday.
The high court issued a notice that is returnable on Friday to the Margao Carnival Committee.
The Carnival committee had decided to shift the Carnival parade held last year at Fatorda to the traditional route in the town.
The Carnival parade routes at Mapusa and Vasco will remain unchanged.
