Ludhiana: 31 school buses challaned, two impounded

LUDHIANA: Continuing the drive against school buses for flouting norms under Safe School Vahan scheme, sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) along with officials from Regional Transport Authority challaned 31 buses and impounded 2 other vehicles. In total, 196 buses were checked.
Additional deputy commissioner Iqbal Singh Sandhu said the checking of school vehicles will be done daily as strict instructions have been issued to the officials for effective implementation of Safe School Vahan scheme.
He said it has come to the notice that the school and educational institutions do not follow the directions issued by the transport department under the scheme. Sandhu said the Ludhiana police commissioner, Ludhiana (Rural) and Khanna Police, the secretary of Regional Transport Authority and all the SDMs have been told to ensure that all school buses/vehicles are checked.
The district education officers have been instructed to constitute teams to verify whether schools are following the guidelines under the scheme.
