KARNAL: Five people sustained bullet injuries after being shot at by three unidentified miscreants at Anjanthali village of Nilokheri sub-division in Karnal district on Thursday evening.
The victims have been identified as Kapil (24), his uncle Phool Kumar (48), siblings Rinku and Pooja, aged between 26 to 28 and one Simarjeet Singh. They were admitted to a private hospital in Karnal. Three of them are in critical condition.
Their family members said the incident took place around 7:30pm. The assailants, they said, shot at Kapil, who was in the street. Then they barged into Rinku's home and opened fire, hitting Rinku and Pooja as well. Simarjeet Singh, who came to drop a child for tuition, took a bullet in his back.
An eyewitness said the miscreants came on bikes and managed to flee from the spot. The injured were rushed to Nilokheri CHC and referred to another hospital in Karnal due to serious injuries.
Police attributed the attack to enmity between the two groups. Kapil was arrested for his alleged involvement in the murder of former sarpanch and liquor contractor Suresh alias Babli, who was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the village in July 2018. He came out on bail this January.
DSP Virender Saini said the police is recording statements of the victims and family members. Police teams have been formed to nab the culprits.
