NAGPUR: The Nagpur bench of Bombay high court on Friday allowed dalit outfit Bhim army to hold a meet at Reshimbagh grounds near RSS main center, on the conditions that it will be a workers' meet and should not be used as a political forum or used to hold protests. Bhim army chief Chandrashekhar Azad Ravan will have to give an undertaking to abide by the conditions.
Bhim army had planned a cadre meet on February 22. Apart from a meet of the party's rank, file issues like NRC and CAA were also supposed to be raised.
Holding a meet at reshimbagh would have been of strategic importance to Bhim army in its plans to assert the dalits rights due to its proximity RSS center. The ground is the regular venue of RSS Foundation Day celebrations held on every Dussehra.
Earlier, the police have denied the permission citing law and order reasons. The police affidavit said that the Bhim army and RSS have opposite idealogies and holding an event close to it can lead to disturbances.
The court said that care has to be taken so that no inflammatory statement hurting sentiments of a community or dignity of any citizen or inciting violence are made.
The meet is being organized by 'we the citizen of India', an outfit that had organized a series of anti-NRC/CAA protests in Nagpur two months ago.
