Govt schoolteachers showcase innovative teaching ideas at exhibition in Madurai

MADURAI: Biscuits are meant to be consumed. Agreed. But they can also be used to explain Pythagoras’ theorem to schoolchildren, as proved by Bhagavathy G, a teacher in a government high school in Madurai district. She stacked biscuits inside a triangle on a chart paper as a model to make children digest Pythagoras theorem in an easly way.
Not just biscuits, but old bottles, tins, posters and many other such items can be creatively used to make teaching interesting and effective, as proved by other teachers who participated in the two-day Zero Investment Innovations for Education Initiatives exhibition which concluded here on Friday. Government schoolteachers in Madurai district showcased their innovative ideas and models in the exhibition.
It was organised by Sri Aurobindo Society, a non-profit organisation supported by Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) as part of the organisation’s Zero Investment Innovations for Education Initiatives (ZIIEI) programme. The ZIIEI is an intellectual training programme for government school teachers.
“The pan-Indian programme aims at collecting unique ideas for teaching and helping in knowledge-sharing. We first provide training and then hand pick teachers to exhibit them in an exhibition,” said Ravi Varman, a trainer from Sri Aurobindo Society.
The exhibition was held at Noyes Matriculation Higher Secondary school.
Madurai district chief education officer Swaminathan R took part, who was the chief guest, presented awards to the teachers who had the most innovative exhibits.
