Eskom said on Friday evening stage 2 load shedding would continue until 06:00 on Sunday morning due to a loss of additional units, but warned that it could continue for the rest of the day as well.
The power utility said "the possibility is high that we may have to continue with load shedding for rest of Sunday, should the further breakdown be experienced, and some of the units expected to return on Saturday not return as scheduled."
It added that unplanned outages were at were at 11 906MW as at 15:20 on Friday afternoon, while planned maintenance is 5 2094 MW. Emergency reserves are currently being used to supplement the shortage in capacity.

The state-owned power producer said its system remains unpredictable and constrained, and that any shift on the system performance would require a change in the depth of load shedding at short notice.
