28 samples tested negative for coronavirus in the city

PUNE: Till Thursday, 28 samples have been tested negative for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the city. However, the results of four more patients are awaited as per the Health Department of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). 

All 41 Wuhan evacuees have tested negative for COVID-19 and have returned to the State. These evacuees were in isolated wards at ITBP, New Delhi and Army camp, Manesar, as a precautionary measure. They were kept quarantined by the Central government earlier this month.  According to the State Health Department, 43,031 travellers have been screened at Mumbai International Airport till February 20. So far, the Health Department has sent 71 samples which were tested negative by National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune. 

Apart from Mumbai, Pune and Thane travellers are also monitored in Nanded, Buldhana, Nagpur, Wardha, Sangli, Ahmednagar, Amravati, Palghar, Jalgaon, Chandrapur and Satara districts.

Total samples tested at NIV

  • During a press interaction on Thursday, BV Tandale, scientist at NIV said that there have been only three positive cases of coronavirus in students from Kerala.
  • “There has been no such cases of any transmission of the virus from these students to their families or health staff who were taking care of them. At present, two of them have been discharged while one of them, which was the first case of the coronavirus is under review by the State health team. So far, NIV has tested 2,658 samples for COVID-19,” said Tandale.
