Two hockey players shot outside dhaba in Patiala

PATIALA: Two hockey players, both Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) employees, were shot by a father-son duo outside a dhaba in Pratap Nagar area of Patiala on Wednesday night. They were shot from close range around 11 pm.
The deceased have been identified as Amrik Singh, a resident Majithia Enclave, and Simranjit Singh Happy, a resident Pratap Nagar. Amrik was a national-level player, who also represented the PSPCL team along with Simranjit.
The dhaba owner told police officials that the two players had got into an argument with a man and his son Manoj while having dinner and slapped the older one. The two men left the dhaba in a fit rage and returned soon after with a double-barrel gun. They shot Amrik and Simranjit in the head, killing them on the spot. However, after firing two shots, they reloaded the gun and again fired at the two players, who had fallen on the ground.
He told cops that Manoj had given him Rs 500 a week ago, saying he would be eating at his dabha.
Police officials said they have registered a case against unknown persons and shifted the bodies of two victims to the mortuary of Government Rajindra Hospital.
