CHANDIGARH: A man on a motorcycle snatched a purse containing cash and gold jewellery from a woman in Sector 46 here on Wednesday night.
Tanvi Bhandarkar, 23, said in her police complaint that she, along with her friend, was walking back home in Sector 46 from a nearby market around 10 pm. When she was talking on phone, a bike rider wearing a helmet approached from behind and snatched her purse.
She raised the alarm, but by then the snatcher had sped away.
She then informed the police.
Cops from Sector 34 police station reached the spot and cordoned off the area to nab the culprit, but found no success.
“My purse contained Rs 10,000, a gold ring, ATM cards and other important documents,” Tanvi added.
After recording her statement, the police registered a case. “We are scrutinising the footage of CCTVs installed in the area to trace the accused,” said a cop.
Tanvi, a resident of Bhuj, Gujarat, had come to see the city and was staying in Sector 46 with her relatives.
On February 14, miscreants had snatched a purse and a cellphone from two persons in sectors 51 and 47. Later, the police claimed to have solved the Sector 51 case with the arrest of a habitual snatcher.
