Hawkers on skywalks: Three suspended

KALYAN: Days after taking over as municipal commisisoner of Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation, Dr Vijay Suryawanshi on Thursday suspended three senior civic officials for not taking action against hawkers selling their wares on the skywalks at Kalyan and Dombivli railway stations.
Those suspended are Ganesh Mane, chief of anti-hawkers squad; Bharat Pawar, ward officer of K-ward; and Deepak Shinde, ward officer of F-ward. Suryawanshi took the action after his surprise visit at 11 pm on Wednesday to the skywalks in Kalyan west and Dombivli east, and found them packed with hawkers, leaving hardly any walking space for people.
