PUNE:
Maharashtra is gearing up for the rollout of both the Census and the National
Population Register (NPR) from May 1, even as disagreements prevail within the three-party
Maha Vikas Aghadi government over the NPR.
With CM
Uddhav Thackeray of
Shiv Sena stating that he won’t block NPR in the state, senior government officials said they have been asked “to be ready” for the rollout of the process along with the Census.
The state government’s home department is expected to issue a notification about the NPR drive soon if there are “no further discussions” among the three parties regarding the issue, officials stated.
