AHMEDABAD: Kagdapith police on Wednesday arrested a BRTS driver and one of his friends who posed as ‘crime branch head’ for molesting a 19-year-old girl, blackmailing her with the threat of making her images viral, intimidating her by impersonation of a police official, and allowing their friend, who is on the run, to rape her.
According to the FIR lodged on February 17 by the girl, she went to IELTS classes by BRTS bus since September 2019, and fell in the trap of the bus driver, Gunvant Rathod, 25, of Nava Vadaj.
“Rathod used to offer a seat to the girl and converse with her to get close. Later, he offered to marry her, took her to Bhadaj where he molested her and clicked photographs on his mobile phone,” said inspector U D Jadeja of Kagdapith police station.
Rathod then began to threaten the girl that he will circulate her photos if she didn’t have sex with him. Then, one day, a man named Dharmesh Parmar of Ranip, called up the girl and said he could help to get back the photographs from Rathod and asked her to meet him. “Parmar took the girl to a hotel near Shah-e-Alam and raped her several times,” said a police source.
The girl then stopped responding to calls from both Rathod and Parmar.
“At this juncture, one Jayesh Prajapati, 29, of Ghatlodia called her up introducing himself as ‘head of crime branch’ and warned her to do what Parmar asked,” a police source added.
Traumatized, the girl went to Kagdapith police station and lodged a complaint. “We have arrested Rathod for molestation and offences under the IT act and Prajapati for impersonation of a police official. Parmar has been accused of rape and is on the run. We are taking help of cybercrime cell to arrest him,” Jadeja said.
