Surat: Organ donation is all set to get a boost with the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) deciding design new software for maintaining an organ registry.
SOTTO was set up to ensure that organ donation and transplantation process becomes transparent on all fronts. Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Center (IKDRC), Ahmedabad was designated as Center for SOTTO for effective implantation of the programme and for promoting organ sharing and regulating the transplantation of human organs in the state.
“The new software is being designed by central government’s National Informatics Centre (NIC) and it will cater as one step solution for everything related to cadaver donations,” said Dr. Pranjal Modi, head, Transplant and Surgery department at IKDRC and SOTTO convenor.
“Everything detail will available online. The waiting list of all potential organ recipients for heart, lungs, liver, pancreas, kidneys and other organs will be computerised,” he added.
The software will have all the details about retrieval medical centres, waiting list of patients, transplantation centres to name a few.
“The trail run of the software is underway and will soon be rolled out. The software will have some information for general public while most information will be only for registered medical centers,” Modi added.
According to sources, in 2019, 389 kidney transplantations were done at IKRDC which included 96 cadaver transplantation and rest were living transplantation. Similarly, 68 liver transplantation were carried out of which 52 were cadaver donations.
