PIL seeks continuance of Harsh Gupta as electoral registration officer of Bengaluru Teachers' constituency

BENGALURU: The high court on Wednesday ordered notice to the state government in response to a PIL seeking a direction that senior IAS officer Harsh Gupta should be allowed to continue duties as electoral registration officer of Bengaluru Teachers' constituency.
A division bench headed by chief justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka has said that any orders passed in the aftermath of January 16 will be subject to final orders of the court.
The New India Voters Forum has filed this PIL. The petitioner claimed that the transfer of the officer at a crucial juncture has serious consequences as the new incumbent Regional Commissioner has not taken action regarding inclusion of those names in the voters list published on January 16 ,2020 for which objections were raised.
According to the petitioners, Harsh Gupta was discharging his duties as electoral registration officer sincerely and has undertaken revision of electoral rolls and now the said officer has been made special officer , IMA related cases , a newly created post, which has got no significance attached to it as the entire case is being investigated by the CBI and the matter is being monitored by the high court.
